WWE is gearing up to make tonight’s SmackDown a spectacular show. As the go-home episode for Saturday Night’s Main Event, the show promises to feature memorable segments. Notably, former NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes will compete in an anticipated match against an opponent chosen by Nick Aldis. A new report sheds light on who could be Hayes’ opponent tonight.
According to a report by Dr. Chris Featherstone (via WrestleTalk), the current plan is for Hayes’ opponent to be none other than Braun Strowman. The former Universal Champion is expectedly set to move to SmackDown, with tonight marking the official commencement of his tenure. Although WWE has been building the opponent to be a new star, The Monster Among Men is poised to face the 30-year-old tonight.
Strowman’s last appearance on WWE television came in September on Raw, where he faced Bronson Reed in a grueling Last Monster Standing match. Although the 41-year-old emerged victorious, he sustained a groin injury during the intense encounter, forcing him to take a hiatus from in-ring action. However, he recently returned to action, competing in a dark match on SmackDown a few weeks ago.
Throughout the week, Hayes has been building anticipation for his SmackDown match on social media, playfully suggesting potential opponents like Seth Rollins, John Cena, and even James Ellsworth. However, it appears WWE is opting for a straightforward yet impactful approach by using this opportunity to mark the return of Strowman to SmackDown.
