On January 6, 2025, WWE Raw will debut on Netflix. The anticipation encircling the show has been months in the making. But everyone was curious to know which part of the country would be given the onus to host the landmark event for WWE. As discussed on the latest edition of WrestleVotes Radio, the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles is set to stage the event that’s expected to be a legendary rendezvous of wrestling stars.
In addition to that, the last Raw episode to air on the USA Network on December 30 will emanate from Houston, Texas. Recently, WWE announced a major change for the airtime of the remaining episodes of the red brand for the rest of 2024. For the first time since becoming a three-hour show in 2012, Raw will have its third hour cut, airing from 8-10 pm EST starting October 7.
There was some chatter regarding the stay of this move. After Raw moves to Netflix, it’s expected that the show will return to three hours. However, that’s a decision yet to be taken by WWE. A two-hour format is something that has its pros and cons.
Reigning AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone recently expressed her concerns about Raw dropping the third hour, saying it’d mean less representation of talent, especially women. She hoped it wouldn’t be a problem after Raw gets on the streaming platform in January.
One aspect of the WWE-Netflix $5 billion deal is that it would likely allow more leeway to the superstars in terms of the verbiage they intend to use. Moreover, censorship wouldn’t be an issue on Netflix, as confirmed by WWE CCO Triple H previously. All in all, the dawn of a new era beckons as WWE ushers into the new year.
Who’s set to descend in LA for Netflix premiere of WWE Raw?
As one would imagine, WWE is planning to leave no stone unturned for the Netflix debut of Raw. 16-time World Champion John Cena has already confirmed his presence for the show.
His Hollywood counterpart, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is heavily expected to be a part of that historic night, although he’s yet to comment on the appearance. Apart from Rock and Cena, WWE could call in a number of legends like they do for their anniversary-special episodes.
However, what will eventually matter most is how they utilize their existing pool of stars who’ll embark on the road to WrestleMania 41 amidst the hubbub of Netflix-bound bash. As recently announced, the tickets for the pop-culture extravaganza go on sale on October 25.
