The Canadian suffered a knee injury which led to her withdrawal from the WTA Finals 2019. “Tennis is very unifying. I think 2020 really expressed that even more. Especially for me, I saw how down I got when the tour got canceled and everything and we weren’t able to watch sports. Sport is a very big thing in my life. It also collides with being able to inspire others and to me it’s very important and if I can do just a little bit of that then it gives me another purpose to play this sport.” said Andreescu.

The resumption of the ATP and WTA tours would not have been possible without the dedication and sacrifices made by the health workers, tournament organizers and the ball kids. Strict quarantine protocols were witnessed after the season resumed and the fans were treated to four months of non-stop tennis.

Andreescu has been training in Dubai over the past few weeks and will make her much-awaited return at the Australian Open 2021 which commences from February 8.
