Kiren Rijiju

Sports Minister of India, Kiren Rijiju stated on Monday that the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) has taken various corrective measures prescribed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). He further urged the agency to lift the suspension which has been imposed on NDTL.
The Sports Minister stated the same in a webinar on ‘Anti-doping, Nutritional and Therapeutic Requirements in Sports’. In the webinar, which was also attended by the chief of WADA Witold Banka, Rijiju took up the matter of lifting the suspension on the laboratory.
‘India stands firmly for fair and clean sports’

Talking about the suspension and requesting the lifting of the same, “NDTL has taken various corrective measures prescribed by the WADA and we hope to resume dope analysis under the WADA guidelines. I am eagerly looking forward to you and your team’s visit to India as and when the COVID-19 pandemic situation improves. I also request you to consider due representation of Indians in the committees and boards of the WADA to enable our scientists share our sports science, forensic and anti-doping expertise,” Rijiju told Banka.
“India stands firmly for fair and clean sports and integrity in sports. We are ready to offer contribution to WADA, NADOs (National Anti-Doping Organisations) and RADOs (Regional Anti-Doping Organisations) in strengthening anti-doping activities,” he added. Banka who incidentally spoke before Rijiju did not address the suspension and the lifting of the same in his speech but rather focused it on the importance of anti-doping and dope testing.
