Kanye West partnership is dropped by the German sportwear brand Adidas after he made a rather controversial statement which elicited widespread condemnation by a number of Jewish rights groups.
On 15th October 2022, Kanye West said, “I can say anti-Semitic things and Adidas can’t drop me, now what?” he repeated with a chip on his shoulder, “I CAN SAY ANTI-SEMITIC THINGS AND ADIDAS CAN’T DROP ME, NOW WHAT?”
In response on 25th October 2022, Adidas astonished the world as they tweeted, “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,” ending the long-term association with Kanye West. “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”
Tony Posnanski tweeted, “Adidas didn’t drop Kanye West to stand against anti-semitism. They dropped him because their stock was falling hard and an analyst told them to in order to salvage their stock value, they needed to drop him. Nothing heroic about what they did.”
The reactions over Adidas sacking Kanye West have taken over Twitter, even LinkedIn
Kanye West has not only flabbergasted Adidas but his repeated anti-Semitic and eyebrow-raising remarks since the start of October in interviews and on social media, made Luxury fashion house Balenciaga, fashion bible Vogue and recently hired Johnny Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez cut ties with the US Rapper.
Lawyer Camille was still willing to work with the American rapper, Kanye West, only if he was willing to publicly retract his words on antisemitism. Following that Kanya refused to do so and fired the firm himself.
While speaking to TMZ Kanye said, “I ain’t losing no money… The day I was taken off the Balenciaga site, that was one of the most freeing days.” He said that people are merely cutting ties with him to “mute him.
