Trent Alexander-Arnold spoke highly about Marcus Rashford before the big game between Manchester United and Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. The right-back will be on guarding duty of the Mancunian in the match which is often extremely highly contested.

He said, “The only thing that’s really changed is he’s probably scored a lot more recently, but he’s the same player, he’s still a threat and I’m sure he will be a threat on Sunday.” Alexander-Arnold is not in his best season with just two assists, one of the reasons behind Liverpool’s misery.

Trent also mentioned how it would be difficult to stop Rashford since he is a player with a lot of quality. He spoke about how he thought that defending against him would be more of a team effort and not just one-on-one.“It’s difficult [to stop Rashford]. He’s a player who has a lot of quality, but I think it’s more of a team effort, it won’t just be one-on-one,” he said.

It will be an interesting battle between the two Englishmen. Rashford has had success in the past versus the English right-back. In fact, Liverpool is his second-most favorite opponent in terms of goal-scoring as he has scored six goals against the Merseyside reds. Only Leicester City have seen him put the ball in the back of the net more times.

Many had written off the Manchester United man after a poor run of form last season. Rashford scored just five goals in all competitions last season which is by far the worst tally for the striker. The immense nosedive in his form can be attributed to his persistent injury and also the focus shifting to Cristiano Ronaldo

But since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, arguably no player in world football has enjoyed a better vein of form than Rashford. With 8 league goals in 9 games since Christmas, he is a man reborn under Erik ten Hag. He has become the homegrown talisman that fans always thought he would become under the Dutchman’s tutelage.

Alongside his 14 Premier League goals, Marcus Rashford has scored four in the Europa League, and one in the FA Cup. He scored six in six in the Carabao Cup, helping Manchester United win their first trophy since 2016. He also has 7 assists across this season, taking his goal contributions tally to 32 in just 39 appearances.

Rashford burst onto the scene as an unknown 18-year-old in early 2016. An injury to Anthony Martial meant the youngster started against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League, and he rewarded then-manager Louis van Gaal for his trust with a brace. He followed that with a match-winning double against Arsenal.

This is the Rashford the red half of Manchester has been waiting for since those magical moments from the teenager, and they will hope he can produce more against fierce rivals Liverpool.
