Sports is a very high-sounding emotion resonating amongst fans, with the athletes playing having an idol-like status within the respective sporting communities. Athletes breaking records or performing wonders with their skills and abilities are something that fans look forward to in every sport played.
All sports have a series of greats, and arguably, chalking out the top 10 sportspersons from all the fields is a difficult task. It would come heavily upon the curator to refrain from bias and strictly rely on the achievements and accomplishments of the athletes in their respective fields.
Chat GPT, an open-source AI tool, has drawn out the Top 10 athletes of all time, which includes the likes of Michael Jordan, Usain Bolt, Pele, and Lionel Messi. However, fans on Twitter have started to become enraged over the fact that the AI has missed out on several crucial names in sports, such as golfing legend Tiger Woods, NBA superstar LeBron James, and NFL legend Tom Brady. Many fans have even come out to claim that the AI is ‘biased’ and ‘United States-centric.’

Fans react to LeBron James and Tiger Woods missing out from Chat GPT’s Top 10 Athletes of all time list
Surely, Chat GPT did mention some of the greats of their respective fields. For example, the list includes Muhammad Ali, one of the greats of boxing, Pele, the Brazilian legend, and Lionel Messi. However, the fans have started drawing contentions on the rankings, especially with the exclusion of some of the GOATS in sports.
LeBron James and Tiger Woods, who are excluded from the list, have a plethora of achievements that would suffice their claim as top 10 athletes. LeBron James, for example, has amassed an NBA all-time high score of 38,652 points, surpassing Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Tiger Woods, on the other hand, is one of the very first persons of color to absolutely dominate golf over the years. Woods has won 82 PGA Tour titles and 15 majors over his career, thus sufficing the claim as a top 10 athlete.
Fans were also quick to notice that NFL legend Tom Brady is also missing from the list. Brady, who has played as a QB for most of his career has had remarkable achievements to boast about during his tenure with the Patriots and the Buccaneers. Over his 23 seasons long career, Brady has won the most number of championships, has the highest number of career touchdown passes, and has won the highest number of games in the NFL. These stats virtually makes Brady untouchable in his field, thus amounting to his inclusion in the Top 10 list.
Besides the exclusions, fans are also particularly unhappy with the rankings given to the players on the list. For example, many fans were baffled to see Simone Biles ahead of Lionel Messi, Wayne Gretzky at #7, and Michael Phelps ranking #6.
All in all, the fans are not at all pleased with the list generated by Chat GPT. They claim that an AI would fail to determine the achievements and accomplishments of players who have won the hearts of millions of sports fans.
