- Shai Gilgeous-Alexander faced heavy criticism from Spurs fans for his flopping during the Western Conference Finals.
- A Spurs fan brought a mini Oscar trophy to mock Gilgeous-Alexander's antics during the game.
- The Spurs successfully limited Gilgeous-Alexander's scoring in Game 4, leading to his worst performance of the series.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his Oklahoma City Thunder flipped the script on the San Antonio Spurs after losing Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
Game 2 was a fitting response to that loss, as the defending champions clamped down on Victor Wembanyama and proved with their all-round scoring why they are favored to repeat.
The now two-time league MVP was at the head of it all, but his flopping and foul baiting in both Game 2 and the first game back in San Antonio left fans fuming.
In Game 3, one Spurs fan arrived wearing full bubble wrap and enacted how the Canadian flops. But that was before the game. During the battle, all the fans inside Frost Bank Center chanted ‘Flopper’ whenever SGA fell to the ground.
Since he made it clear after the game that it did not bother him, another Spurs fan decided to up the ante. A woman seated courtside caught The Athletic’s Sam Amick, and he proceeded to record what she was doing, or rather, holding.
There’s a woman courtside here in San Antonio who brought a mini Oscar trophy to present to SGA whenever he hits the deck. More sights/sounds/analysis on the @TheAthletic live blog here.https://t.co/E8oH0QM43k pic.twitter.com/QQ8OAo1wFM

This fan had a mini Oscar replica in her hand. She kept waving it at Shai Gilgeous-Alexander when he was in her vicinity. This was the fan making it known to the 27-year-old superstar that his antics are worthy of an Oscar.
The amount of acting he does to portray a foul has become a part of his legacy as much as his exceptional mid-range scoring and leadership are. However, it seems this Oscar was not enough to stop him from continuing his antics.
Loud boos resonate after Shai Gilgeous-Alexander flops again
Former No. 2 pick and current ESPN analyst Jay Williams has called out the ‘unethical’ style of basketball Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder play.
OKC players have been on the receiving end of some heat as their actions have become the narrative surrounding their team more than their basketball prowess.
But it is SGA who receives most of it, and he was again in the line of fire when a foul was called on De’Aaron Fox. When the replay showed up on the Jumbotron, Spurs fans immediately understood how he sold that call.

Not only did he slightly jump into the veteran guard, but no part of the latter’s body touched the four-time All-Star. Even commentator and Hall of Famer Reggie Miller remarked that the call was incorrect.
But Spurs fans were louder than him to let the officials know they were wrong in their assessment. As soon as the replay proved there was no contact, they booed as loudly as they could.
Such reactions are becoming standard operating procedure for opposing fans whenever Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or his teammates play. Unfortunately, the league has not acknowledged the problem yet.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had worst performance in WCF
In their Game 1 overtime loss, Gilgeous-Alexander scored 24 points, but also had 12 assists and five steals. Despite his poor 30% shooting, the overall impact was not that bad.

In the next two games, he reverted to his usual efficiency, and that is what helped the Thunder win. In Game 4, the San Antonio Spurs made sure they made it as tough as Game 1 was for him.
They fixed their defensive tendencies and avoided getting called for fouls as much as possible. That stopped the 2025 Finals MVP from scoring more than 19 points.
The home team also ensured that his playmaking was limited to a degree, and that is what led SGA to have his worst game in these Conference Finals.
If the Spurs can repeat this effort in Game 5 at Oklahoma City, they could wrench back control of this series. The flopping and foul-baiting might continue. But if the Spurs can limit Gilgeous-Alexander’s scoring, they have a chance.
