Carlos Alcaraz will soon be seen in action. He has confirmed his participation at the Cincinnati Masters, which will be his first tournament since the Barcelona Open.
In Barcelona, the Spaniard injured his wrist, which has forced him to sit on the sidelines since then; as a result, he also skipped the French Open and Wimbledon. A few days ago, Alcaraz made a public appearance at the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain.
Before the match, Alcaraz and South Korean actress Jung Ho-yeon presented the trophy at MetLife Stadium. Ho-yeon, who starred in Squid Game, spoke glowingly of the seven-time Grand Slam champion, admitting that she became a huge fan after watching Alcaraz play in last year’s US Open.
There’s another interesting piece of news. A tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz… I watched him play during last year’s US Open. I watched it with an American friend in the US. At that time, I was completely like, ‘Wow, like, I am such a huge fan…fall in love.’ So I became a complete fan, and I get to open a trophy with him. A dream-come-true fan moment, the moment of meeting Alcaraz.

At the US Open last year, Alcaraz dropped just one set en route to the victory. Before his four-set win over arch-rival Jannik Sinner, the 23-year-old eliminated 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.
It was Alcaraz’s second title in the New York Major. Back in 2022, Alcaraz beat Casper Ruud to win his career’s first Major.
Greg Rusedski on Carlos Alcaraz’s recent practice video
Carlos Alcaraz recently dropped another practice video ahead of his scheduled return. Greg Rusedski, a former British No.1 player, said he was happy with Alcaraz’s movement on the court, and also called the youngster the “biggest star” in men’s tennis at the moment.

He seems to be hitting the ball well, but it looked like he wasn’t hitting with the highest-level players. It was more juniors and younger players. Time will tell, but much better signs. Fingers crossed he makes it in Cincinnati.
Greg Rusedski said on the Off Court with Greg podcast
Alcaraz will be chasing his fourth title of the season in Cincinnati. Before competing in Barcelona, he played the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters but failed to defend his title, losing to Jannik Sinner. Because of Sinner’s win as well as his victory in the Sunshine Double events (he did not have any points to defend), the Italian removed Alcaraz from the No.1 ranking.
The movement looks pretty good because when you have a wrist injury, the good news is you can do a lot of footwork, you can do a lot of movement. You can use that time to get better physically, but you still need to get the reps on court. So a lot more optimistic about him coming back, but still, we got to see what happens.
Greg Rusedski added
In Cincinnati as well, the Murcia native will be competing as the defending champion. In last year’s final, he was handed the walkover by Sinner.
In Alcaraz’s absence, Sinner won the Madrid Open, Italian Open, and Wimbledon. He had a golden opportunity to complete the Career Grand Slam at the French Open, but he suffered severe cramps during the second round against Juan Manuel Cerundolo and ended up losing the match in five sets.
The player with the most titles on the ATP Tour this season is Sinner, having clinched six trophies, all Big Titles. The Canadian Open is underway, but Alcaraz withdrew from it and so did Sinner.
