Novak and Srdjan Djokovic
World no.1 Novak Djokovic won his 18th grand slam last month, defeating Russian Daniil Medvedev in the final at Melbourne. This was also Novak’s 9th Australian Open title.
He has finally ticked off one goal off his list after he surpassed Roger Federer’s record of most weeks at the top of the ATP Rankings. In the ranking update as of 8th March, Novak Djokovic started his 311st week as world number one, overtaking Federer’s tally of 310 weeks.
The Serbian has now claimed his long-sought dream of his historic world number one ranking and can finally focus his attention towards other goals. Novak Djokovic climbed to the world number one spot for the first time on July 4, 2011 after he won his first Wimbledon title.
A few days back Srdjan Djokovic, Novak’s father spoke about how the rules seem to be different for Federer/Nadal and Novak. He also took a dig at Novak’s arch-rival and 20-time grand slam champion Roger Federer.
Women are stronger than us men: Srdjan Djokovic
Srdjan spoke about what role he and his wife played in Novak’s success and how he doesn’t watch his son’s matches.
“Novak took the best from me and my wife,” he said.
“From me the courage, from his mother the calmness. I watched the Australian Open final for just a few minutes. My wife watched it because women are stronger than us men.”
He also shared an incident from 2012 where his life was in danger and how Novak coped with it.
He said: “In 2012 my life was in danger due to health issues. It was tough. I moved to Munich. Novak was thinking about skipping the ATP Finals in order to spend time with me. I told him he had to play and win in order to give strength to me. He ended up winning the title.”
Novak is currently training in Monte-Carlo ahead of the clay season.
