The third match of the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) sees Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. SRH had a more than decent season last year as they finished 3rd on the points table and went on to bow out in the second Qualifier. KKR also finished with the same points tally but their inferior net run-rate meant that they finished 5th and could not make it to the playoffs.
This time around, both teams have stuck to largely their same squad as last season. These two of the teams who made the least big-money buys at the auction. They were content with the group of players that they had and only went for signings that bolstered squad depth. Now that the tournament begins for the two teams, only a win would be on their minds as they seek to get off to a flyer.
On that note, we predict who would come up trumps in today’s match.
Who will win today’s IPL match: SRH vs KKR
It is extremely difficult to pick a winner when both sides haven’t yet named their playing XI or haven’t played a game at all. But based on last year’s performances and the look of the squads on paper, SRH might just be favourites to win it. The Orange Army’s bowling attack is without a doubt one of the best, if not the best in the tournament. If they can keep the likes of Andre Russell and Eoin Morgan quiet, it would greatly help their cause.
SRH don’t seem to have much of a weakness. Their middle-order worries from last season has now been addressed a bit with the acquisition of the experienced Kedar Jadhav. Despite the same, a lot would rest on the openers for the side, irrespective of who opens with David Warner. KKR on the other hand, would want their Indian top-order led by Shubman Gill to provide a platform for the finishers to explode. If that doesn’t happen, it could be a stroll for SRH.
