World No 1 Novak Djokovic’s charity exhibition tournament, the ill-fated Adria Tour has been a constant source of talk around the tennis world.
The Serb has received severe criticism for his involvement in the tournament which lacked any physical distancing measures.
The stadium also housed a full crowd, which put the health of many in jeopardy, in the midst of a pandemic. The aftermath saw several participating players getting infected including Djokovic.
Swiss tennis star Stan Wawrinka had his say on the Adria Tour. He also added that a return to normality in the tennis circuit will not be possible in the near future compared to other sports.
“He should have been more careful” – Wawrinka
In a recent interview with RTS, Wawrinka was asked about “when we will be seeing a real return to the circuit?
Wawrinka said “tennis will be the last sport to resume normally. The misfortunes of the Adria Tour by Novak Djokovic recalled the fragility of the “building”.
“Novak only followed the health directives of the countries concerned. But as the world No. 1, he assumes more responsibility than any other player, he says. He should have been careful. But it is not for me to teach.”

Wawrinka admits to not missing tennis
Wawrinka also claimed that he did not miss playing tennis during the confinement due to the pandemic.
“I remain a privileged one!” said the three-time Grand Slam winner, when asked how he experienced the confinement. At no time has he been confronted with the precarious situations encountered by many people in this time of pandemic.
“I was happy to spend so much time at home with my family, he admitted. Also happy to be able to rest. Happy to be able to finally take a break from tennis.”
“It was at a standstill. I would have missed it if I hadn’t been able to play tournaments. If I still play, it’s for the emotions you feel on the court, the stress that matches can arouse.“
In the immediate future, he is preparing to return to competition. He will be participating at the two tournaments in Prague, from August 17 to 30.
This fortnight in the Czech capital would allow him to refine his preparation with the major meetings in Rome and Roland-Garros.
“For now, it is coming back nicely. It is necessary first of all to get back into the rhythm“, he explained.
