A star-studded audience attended the USA women’s basketball team prevailing over France in the finals of the Paris Olympics. LeBron James, fresh from his own gold medal win, was spotted in the crowd, proudly wearing his medal. He was joined by other notable figures such as Leslie Jones, Lisa Leslie, Megan Rapinoe, and Sue Bird among others.
The game was a nail-biter, with France’s Gabby Williams hitting a shot at the buzzer. The shot could have potentially tied the game. However, the shot was inside the three-point arc, securing the win for Team USA 67-66. The victory marked the United States’ eighth straight gold medal in women’s basketball. It was indeed a close game, with the team surviving a close game that saw them lead for only 23 minutes.
The win was a testament to the depth and talent of Team USA. WNBA stars like Kahleah Copper and A’ja Wilson stepped up to secure the victory. Wilson, in particular, was impressive. She scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to strengthen her case as the best player in the world.
The victory sets the stage for the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, where Team USA will look to secure a ninth straight gold medal. With a new generation of players emerging, including popular absentees Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark, the team will look to maintain their dominance in the sport. As Sunday’s game showed, however, nothing can be taken for granted. As such, the team will need to be at their best to secure another gold medal.
