In the NFL, the average player moves a few teams before they hang up their cleats. The chances of that increase as the player moves closer to the end of their career. But wide receiver Diontae Johnson is a former All-Pro and just 28.
In the past calendar year, football fans saw the Florida native first in a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey. Their sole Wild Card round playoff game of their 2023 season was played on January 15th, 2024. Less than a couple of months later, the star wideout was traded to the Carolina Panthers.
However, the Panthers did not have the season they expected, and Johnson cut a frustrated figure. The Baltimore Ravens pounced on the opportunity and sent a draft pick in exchange. The idea was that Diontae Johnson would help push the Ravens passing game to the next level.
That experiment lasted for a short time as the franchise suspended the wideout for one game after refusing to enter their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. A couple of weeks later, they waived him. Three days post that, the Houston Texans claimed him off waivers and he played in their Wild Card win against the Los Angeles Chargers.

In that game, he registered one catch for 12 yards. That meagre production led to another Diontae Johnson outburst, and his new teammates had to calm him down. It ended up being the last few moments with the Texans, as it was reported earlier that they released him.
Fans lose their minds as Diontae Johnson gets cut again
The Houston Texans releasing Diontae Johnson makes it four teams for him in one calendar year. Usually, players of his caliber do not change this many teams in their entire career. What baffled fans was that all the three teams that wanted him this season were teams that needed help at the wide receiver position. The Texans in particular needed help after they lost Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell to injury.

It goes to show that one’s conduct has to be professional if they are to stay on in an organization. Fans on social media took turns to bash him as his emotions got the better of him. Check out some of those comments below.

With these outbursts, Diontae Johnson is risking his football career. No team would want a receiver with that much baggage and lack of emotional control, which can impact their locker room. If playoff teams have indicated they do not want him, rebuilding teams won’t take that chance as they look to build a culture.
