“Start it early…” Luka Doncic has ONE simple condition for rivals who talk trash
Luka Doncic revealed his conditions for talking trash after a late-game skirmish with Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin.
Luka Doncic responds to trash talk
Luka Doncic has cemented his reputation as one of the best trash-talkers in the NBA. The Slovenian Matador has always been one to back up his trash talk with his incredible game. After the Mavericks fell 134-127 to the Pacers, Doncic did not take well to a late-game skirmish with Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin.
Luka Doncic ended the game with 34 points and 15 assists. However, his heroics weren’t enough to help the Mavericks win the game. Doncic, though, took objection to a late-game interaction with Mathurin.
The two got into a battle of words, as Mathurin went on an 11-point scoring run in the 4th quarter. During his postgame interview, Doncic revealed his simple conditions for trash-talking.

“He started talking sh*t, one minute to go. You know what that’s about. I just said, you know, if you can talk sh*t, start it early. You know how I do.” pic.twitter.com/FgxHHB4ozA
Mathurin spent a major chunk of the fourth quarter guarding Doncic. He restricted the Mavs superstar to just five points in that period and played a crucial role in helping the Pacers grab an important victory against the reigning Western Conference Champions.
However, Doncic had an issue with Mathurin only speaking up when the Pacers were all set to win the game. As a professional trash talker himself, Doncic knows a great deal about the art of talking smack. He made it clear that trash-talking between players should be done from the start of the game and not when the player’s team is already winning.
The time Luka Doncic and Kobe Bryant trash-talked each other
One of the coolest moments in NBA history happened when Luka Doncic and Kobe Bryant had a quick exchange in Slovenian. During a 2019 game between the Mavericks and Lakers, Luka suddenly heard someone trash-talking him in his native language.
At first, he thought it was a fan in the crowd, but to his surprise, it was Bryant. The late great had learned a bit of Slovenian to mess with Doncic. It caught the Slovenian star off guard but ultimately left him smiling.
Safe to say, Doncic learned a lot about talking smack from Bryant that day. He certainly took on the art of talking trash in an opponent’s language after his recent stint of ‘German’ trash talk.
