The New York Jets’ experiment with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers appears to be over, as reports indicate they’re ready to move on from him after two disastrous seasons. Pittsburgh Steelers’ DeShon Elliott, whose team is also in need of a starting quarterback, responded bluntly to this news.
This means Rodgers is likely to enter free agency as a 41-year-old, which may limit his options. However, JPAFootball’s Instagram post adds speculation that the Steelers may be interested in the four-time NFL MVP. But before the Steelers or Rodgers could make any statement regarding this, safety Elliott has already seemed to have dismissed the rumors.
In a blunt Instagram comment, Elliott made his feelings about the potential signing of Rodgers scathingly clear with a quite brutal remark, writing, “Leave his a*s at the retirement home.” However, the comment has since been deleted which has caught many eyes on social media.

The Steelers are in the market for a quarterback after an uninspiring season for both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, with whom the franchise has decided not to extend beyond the 2024 season. While Rodgers’ future with the Jets appears to be over after a season in which he threw for 3,897 yards after recovering from an Achilles injury at the age of 40; it remains to be seen whether the Steelers will pursue the veteran quarterback. However, if he does land in Pittsburgh, he’ll have at least one teammate to win over.
Steelers posed as potential landing spot for Aaron Rodgers after Jets exit
While the news hasn’t been made public, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported that the All-Pro quarterback has been informed by the Jets that they are “moving on from him,” under the new regime of head coach Aaron Glenn. If he continues playing, he will need to sign with a new team before the June 1 designation.

“Assuming he wants to continue his playing career, he should have at least a few landing spots to consider,” wrote Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley, predicting his potential landing spot. “The Pittsburgh Steelers seem like the best of the bunch since their quarterback position is wide open.”
After finishing the 2024 season with a 10-7 record, the franchise is seeking a quarterback with the capability to make them contenders again next season. Perhaps with his enormous experience and leading a strong team, perhaps Rodgers can have a few successful runs before announcing his retirement in the near future.
