It appears the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have expressed their interest in acquiring star receiver Deebo Samuel, don’t have the budget to accommodate his contract with the San Francisco 49ers. And with that, the trade talk rests at bay with no viable way out.

The Steelers have been in search of a wide receiver ever since the offseason began. They were initially linked with the 49ers’ No. 2 receiver, Brandon Aiyuk, given that he was utterly dissatisfied with the Niners over his role and contract. However, as soon as Samuel became available for the trade, the Steelers’ interest jumped over to him.

Unfortunately, that interest appears to have faded quickly as the Steelers are not willing to meet Samuel’s salary expectations, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle’s Mike Silver

For what it's worth, I'm told the Steelers had an interest in trading for Deebo Samuel but were unwilling to meet the 49ers' price.

As the franchise failed to find a potential receiver in the first two rounds of the 2024 NFL drafts, they were hopeful of acquiring the 49ers’ star receiver, who became available once the 49ers drafted Ricky Pearsallin the first round. However, nothing feasible could work out in the end, and the Steelers’ quest for a potential wideout remained alive.

Ricky Pearsall’s draft selection under scrutiny

On the other side, though Aiyuk gave his approval to Kyle Shanahan for drafting the Florida wideout Pearsall, not everyone seemed happy about it. It appears fans aren’t too excited about his draft selection considering Pearsall’s unimpressive production with his former team, the Arizona State Sun Devils.

In his three years, he hardly surpassed the production of 500 yards, and when he did make it and recorded a career-high yards, he changed his team. Though it turned out well for him, as he is coming off a season of 965 yards and four receiving TDs.

Despite his improved seasons at Florida, fans aren’t truly convinced that the young receiver would be able to match the standards of Aiyuk, especially when the latter is coming off a season of 1,342 yards in 2023.
