Since the starting quarterback position in the Pittsburgh Steelers became available, the first name to be associated with them was veteran Aaron Rodgers. It hasn’t been even a week and the franchise is reportedly seeking another quarterback to replace Russell Wilson, which unfortunately again meeting with backlash.
From a source in Jacksonville Jaguars, Ryan Burr of the Big Ten Network reported that the Steelers have reached out to the Jaguars to inquire about the trade availability of starting quarterback Lawrence. But it remains to be seen whether the Jaguars are actually interested in trading Lawrence, after offering him one of the highest-paid quarterback extensions in early 2024.
“Steelers have made inquiries to the Jaguars about a trade for QB Trevor Lawerence. This directly from the horse’s mouth in the Jags organization. WOW!” posted Burr on X.

The 25-year-old’s journey in the league has been through a lot of challenges, which many believe have severely compromised his development as a quarterback. Despite being drafted as the first overall pick, Lawrence has yet to play at his full potential and it seems, the Steelers aspire to achieve it.
In his four seasons with the Jaguars, he has thrown for 13,815 yards, 69 touchdowns, and 46 interceptions. His struggle began in his debut season as he posted a record for the highest interception count of 17 by a rookie quarterback. Unfortunately for the Steelers, the fans don’t seem to see the vision of Lawrence in Pittsburgh, like they are.
What are the potential landing spots for Russell Wilson?
As for veteran quarterback Wilson, he is set to hit free agency once again since retirement is a distant option for him now. Even though Pittsburgh’s head coach Mike Tomlin has expectations from Wilson, the franchise is insistent on going with a different approach. Eliminating the minute probability that the quarterback may go back to Tomlin, there are some top picks for him in the open market.

With Rodgers’ anticipated departure from the New York Jets, they are said to be the top landing spot for the ten-time Pro Bowler. Although Wilson is coming off a relatively strong season compared to the four-time NFL MVP, he may not be earn the starting role.
The next potential landing spots are the Las Vegas Raiders and the Tennessee Titans, both in need of potential starting quarterbacks. Wilson has a better chance with the Titans, as they are considered to be seeking a veteran. Interestingly, the New York Giants also possessed a potential landing spot for him, as they could utilize their top draft pick on a good wide receiver.
