Lately, there have been quite a handful of rumors that the Pittsburgh Steelers are seeking to trade head coach Mike Tomlin after the disappointing end to the season in the Wild-Card round. However, when a team approached them to know about his availability, they dismissed the entire trail of speculations.

The frontrunner, among many options for Tomlin, was said to be the Chicago Bears, who are aiming to find a potential head coach to develop rookie Caleb Williams after the failed attempt with Matt Eberflus. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that the Bears reached out to the Steelers to inquire about the head coach, but the conversation didn’t even reach Tomlin’s ears as the front office handled it on their own.

The Bears recently called the Steelers to see if they would be allowed to talk to and potentially try to trade for longtime head coach Mike Tomlin, only to have Pittsburgh rebuff their inquiry.

Besides the Bears, another team had also reportedly approached the Steelers whose name has not been revealed to know about the availability of the head coach amid the ongoing rumors.

However, neither Tomlin nor the Steelers are planning to part ways anytime soon, as the franchise turned down a couple of offers by revealing a ‘no-trade’ clause included in the head coach’s contract extension he signed last June. That’s also the reason why Tomlin bluntly rejected the possibility of being trade-off Pittsburgh.

Head Coach Mike Tomlin addresses fan frustrations after early playoff exit

Following the playoff elimination, the Steelers head coach addressed the media to take responsibility for the playoff loss. He comprehended the frustrations building among the Pittsburgh fans and stated that it’s embracing it rather than ignoring to feel the urgency to bring results satisfying to the fans.

I don’t make excuses for failure. I own it,” said Tomlin on Tuesday’s season-ending conference. “But I also feel like I’m capable and so as long as I’m afforded an opportunity to do that, I will continue. But I certainly understand their frustrations, and probably more important than that, I share it because that’s how I’m wired.

Even though fans’ frustration is justified, so is the franchise’s season to not give up on Tomlin. In his 18 seasons with the team, he hasn’t coached a single losing season and was rewarded with the second-winningest head coach in the franchise history with a record of 183-107-2.
