Thompson would spin around and fall down on the ice after that contact from Noesen. His helmet would fall off as well and he remained face first down on the ice in pain.

Surprisingly, a brawl did not break out between the two sets of players. Usually when a player gets hits like this during a game, the teammates of the player come into their defense and go after the person who knocked them out. In this instance, no player went after Noesen.

Following this hit, the officials handed out a five-minute major penalty for this hit. Noesen on the other hand was giving a game misconduct, meaning that he was ejected from the game. As for Thompson, he would not return to the ice later on, but passed his concussion tests as per head coach Lindy Ruff.

At first, Zucker claimed that he did not see the hit in real. Later he mentioned that his team was already winning the match and thus they did not respond to that hit.

Our response is we won. You can hit me from behind, we scored a goal. He made two plays that cost their team a win. We’ll take that all day. We can talk about responding, but you’re not going to do something that’s going to cost our team a win when you don’t know what happened.

Jason Zucker told the reporters in the post game conference

The 33-year-old emphasized that he could have dropped the gloves and fought someone but that would have resulted in a major penalty. This was something, they wanted to avoid as they were leading 4-2.

The Buffalo Sabres eventually won the game 4-3 and claimed their third straight win. This saw their record stand at 21-26-5. As for the New Jersey Devils, this was a second loss in their last three games leaving them with a 29-19-6 record and 3rd in the Metropolitan Division standings.
