Stefanos Tsitsipas has had to tread a rocky road with his father, Apostolos, also being his coach. He recently announced the end of their coach-pupil relationship after some difficult losses at big events.
In a recent interview, Tsitsipas opened up about what he expects after making this change and appointing Greek Davis Cup coach Dimitris Chatzinikolaou as his head coach. This is the second time he has split with his father. The first time was in 2023 when he had Mark Philippoussis take that reigns before hiring his father back.
Things like this offer a huge change in your perspective and the way you perceive tennis. I really hope it’s a positive and allows me to flourish in the remaining years of my career. I would definitely say there are a lot of things that can be improved in my game. At the end of the day, I just want to make the most of my career, work with the right people who know how to guide me and how to add tennis wisdom to my game.Stefanos Tsitsipas told We Love Tennis
After his title run in Monte-Carlo in April, he has not reached another ATP singles final and has been struggling with inconsistent form. In his first professional tournament after the changes to his coaching team, Tsitsipas came back from a set down to take out Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round of the Cincinnati Open.
Stefanos Tsitsipas to re-enter Top 10 following Alex De Minaur’s absence from the ATP tour
During his fourth-round match against Arthur Fils at Wimbledon, Alex de Minaur sustained an injury on match point and later withdrew from the quarterfinal match against Novak Djokovic. The injury also meant he was unable to represent Australia in the Paris Olympics.
De Minaur had been hanging on by a thread to his World No. 10 ranking. However, he will set to fall a few places in the next rankings update. With his first-round win against Struff, Stefanos Tsitsipas confirmed his re-entry into the top 10.
The Greek player will be in contention with Grigor Dimitrov for the ninth spot. Both of them are currently taking part in the Cincinnati Open.
