Tennis is a very competitive job and losses are very disappointing: Stefanos Tsitsipas
Stefanos Tsitsipas
Before the tournament started, four of the top six players had already withdrawn from the tournament. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem had all announced their unavailability due to various reasons. As the tournament started, Alexander Zverev was eliminated in his very first match.
This left the field open for the top two seeds, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas. And since they were seeds 1 and 2, they could only face each other in the finals of the Miami Open 2021. But, as luck would have it, both payers were eliminated on the same day, in the Quarter Final stage. Medvedev lost to Roberto Bautista Agut and Tsitsipas faced defeat at the hands of Hubert Hurkacz.
Tsitsipas would be particularly disappointed as he blew a 6-0 2-0 lead to somehow end up losing the match to the Polish player Hubert Hurkacz 6-2 3-6 4-6. This Quarter Final defeat was nothing short of a golden opportunity lost for the man from Greece.

Disappointed at the Quarter-Final loss says Tsitsipas
Stefanos Tsitsipas is only twenty two, but the World no.5 has a philosophical bent of mind and introspects often. The second seed at this year’s Miami Open talked about the match against Hubert Hurkacz in detail. He said that everything was going well until suddenly he self imploded. Tsitsipas hoped that he wouldn’t lose a match like this ever again. In his own words, “It’s a very disappointing loss. Everything was under control. And suddenly, I don’t know, self-explosion (smiles). That’s a pity, and I hope it doesn’t happen again.“
Tsitsipas also said that Tennis was a very competitive job. You get paid only when you win. But he stressed that he loves the independence Tennis offers. Tsitsipas said, “I’m self-employed, and that’s what I love about tennis. I get to choose when I work, where I work. If I don’t perform, I do not get paid, I don’t proceed, I don’t get better at what I do. It’s a very competitive job.”
