Carlos Alcaraz is the name on every tennis player’s and fan’s lips nowadays. The Spaniard appears to be back in top form after leading Spain to the Davis Cup quarterfinals and helping Team Europe secure their fifth Laver Cup title. One person who is almost at a loss for words to describe Alcaraz is Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Greek tennis player was alongside Alcaraz, representing Team Europe. In an interview, he shared how the former World No.1 has become an example for him for the rest of his career.

I watched Carlos, it’s like seeing him from that perspective is so different than watching him on TV. In any other type of competition, I don’t really get to be that close and intimate with another top player like him. He’s one of the best players in the world right now, he’s won two Grand Slams this year and, to me, he’s an example.

Both Tsitsipas and Alcaraz played key roles in Team Europe’s dramatic Laver Cup win. The team turned a 4-9 deficit on the final day to triumph 13-11.

I really want to follow in his footsteps and watch him play live to see what kind of patterns, what kind of behaviours and what kind of body language he shows on the court. It’s definitely something that I try to copy and try to incorporate into my own game.

Tsitsipas’ main contribution was a straight-set victory over Thanasi Kokkinakis on the opening day. However, Alcaraz set the bar by winning eight of the team’s 13 points, a Laver Cup record. The previous record, held by Roger Federer, was seven points in Team Europe’s 2017 win.

Stefanos Tsitsipas set to begin his Japan Open campaign this week

Stefanos Tsitsipas, ranked No. 12 in the world, is set to make his return at the Japan Open (ATP 500) in Tokyo. The tournament begins the day after tomorrow. Tsitsipas will start his campaign against American Alex Michelsen, ranked No. 49. This will be their first meeting.

The winner of their match will move on to the round of 16. There, they will face either Tomas Echeverry or Chris O’Connell. Tsitsipas is aiming to earn crucial points to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin, where the top eight players compete.

Tsitsipas won the ATP Finals in 2019, defeating Dominic Thiem in the final. However, this season, his form has been inconsistent. The highlight of Tsitsipas’ 2024 season was winning the Monte Carlo title. He also reached the final in Barcelona but lost to Casper Ruud.
