The Greek has quick off the blocks and held serve perfectly. In the first set, he converted the break point as soon as he got one. He moved fast on court and hit a hand full of backhand winners. The story repeated in the second set with Tsitsipas converting 100% of the break points. He eventually won the match 6-3,6-3.

The 23-year-old Rublev was aiming for his second title of the year, his first at Masters level and ninth overall. He had produced an audacious display to defeat record 11-time champion Rafael Nadal in the quarter-final.

But the Russian felt just short to a better opponent in the final. He seemed a bit tired and couldn’t find his massive forehand throughout the match.

Despite his loss, Rublev has won the most matches in the 2021 season. He has won 24 matches this season and is followed by Tsitsipas at 22. He will also achieve his career high ranking next week.
