Former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis has offered Stefanos Tsitsipas some advice which may help him get back to his best on the court after a disappointing conclusion of the 2025 season for the Greek star. Tsitsipas has not been in form since February after winning the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Tsitsipas’ career has been on a downward spiral since February, and it has reached the dizzying heights he has never liked. The former World No.3 has made two Grand Slam finals in his career, first in 2021 at Roland Garros, where he lost to Novak Djokovic, and then lost to the Serbian again at the 2023 Australian Open.
That’s just less than three years ago, and now it seems Tsitsipas’ career is running out of steam and might not be a seeded player at the Australian Open next year as he’s currently World No.34 in the ATP rankings. It is also the first time that the 27-year-old will not be in the top 30 in seven years, ending his consistency streak at the top.
In February this year, Tsitsipas showcased to the World that he was still at his best after winning his first ATP 500 title in Dubai. But after that, he failed to show any sign of fighting spirit on the court, crashing out early at Roland Garros, Wimbledon Championship, and the US Open in New York.
With his current state of things, Tsitsipas’ form looks to be growing worse as he’s currently dealing with a back injury. During an interview with Tennis365, Marcos Baghdatis revealed that Tsitsipas has to start from scratch to build back his career and his confidence on the court. He added that he has to accept that he’s not as good as he was a few years ago:
And not to think that… when you are top 10 and then you fall down, you always want to feel the same that you felt when you were there or when you played that match, but it’s not possible to feel the same. So you need to accept that and start from scratch and go from zero. Go from the basics and start all over again. And acceptance — I think it’s the key to accept where you are right now and to take it one step at a time.
Tsitsipas ended the year winning just 22 of his 40 matches this season, which is lower than the standards he has set in the past five years. He began struggling with a back injury in June at the Wimbledon Championship and that forced him to withdraw from several tournaments, including the Rolex Shanghai Masters and the Vienna Open.
Former ATP players say Stefanos Tsitsipas must make the right decisions to get back to the top 10
Stefanos Tsitsipas had a coaching nightmare at one time this season. He had hired Goran Ivanisevic, with the hope of the Croatian coach helping him get back to his level on the court after a poor clay-court swing. But, their partnership ended after a few weeks, with Ivanisevic complaining that the former World No.3 was not eager enough to compete on the court.

That led Tsitsipas to hire his father, who has been his coach since July. During the aforementioned interview, Marcos Baghdatis pointed out that for Tsitsipas to get back into the top 10 he has to make the right decisions about his career:
That’s for sure. I think it’s decision-making, mostly. And if he can go back to the level he was; top 10 in the world? Of course he can. I still believe he can. But of course, it’s all the decisions and the things that you need to do to get there that are important. So, it depends on a lot of decisions that he will take in the next few weeks, months. But I think if he takes the right decisions… which, it’s very difficult to say which one.
Tsitsipas’ mother made headlines a few days ago as she opened up about the kind of relationship he had with his ex-girlfriend Paula Badosa. That didn’t help matters for the 27-year-old as it created more unnecessary attention following his disappointing 2025 season. He will have to be more organized next year both on and off the court.
