- Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently ranked 51st after dropping out of the top 50 due to poor performances since the 2025 season.
- He upset fifth seed Alex de Minaur in the second round of the Miami Open but lost to Arthur Fils in the third round.
- Tsitsipas believes his ranking is not a concern until he aims to return to the top 20.
Because Stefanos Tsitsipas has dropped out of the top 50, there’s always a chance of top players facing him in the early rounds. The Miami Open is underway, and the Greek ace, no longer a seeded player, upset fifth seed Alex de Minaur 6-3, 7-6(3) in the second round.
Since the 2025 season, Tsitsipas’ poor performances have greatly affected his ranking. He has dropped out of the top 50 and currently stands in 51st spot. After his victory over de Minaur, Tsitsipas explained why he doesn’t think his rankings matter much.
Well, right now, honestly, it does not matter. Why am I saying this? Because when you’re at a certain ranking, you’re used to something else, and you find yourself in the 50s. Whether you’re 50 or 60 at this point, it doesn’t really matter. I’m not even checking the ranking anymore; it’s probably going to matter more when I start getting into top 20 again. Then I might start being more conscious and more caring about my status there.
Stefanos Tsitsipas told reporters
Tsitsipas is a former World No.3, reaching the spot in August 2021, thanks to his Monte Carlo Masters win and finishing the French Open as the runner-up (lost to Novak Djokovic).
Soon you know, I guess I will have to play a few more 250s to try and improve my ranking, or do really well in this type of tournament. So I thought about that. How tough it might be for me at the moment. But also, it all instantly changed when I thought, ‘Oh, the guys that are high-ranked right now they’re gonna have to face me early rounds.’ Which actually sucks for them as well as not as good of a feeling.
Stefanos Tsitsipas added
Last year, he won the Dubai Tennis Championships by defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime. He failed to defend his title this year, losing to Ugo Humbert in the opening round.

Although Tsitsipas improved his head-to-head record over de Minaur to 12-1, he did not carry that form to his next round. Up against him in the third round was Arthur Fils, who let the two-time Grand Slam finalist win just one game, registering a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory.

That’s one of the best matches I’ve ever played. I have played some great matches before, but this level was insane. I don’t know what to say, but very happy with the performance.
Arthur Fils said during his on-court interview
The 28th seed has improved his head-to-head record over Tsitsipas to a perfect 5-0. The Frenchman will next be locking horns with Valentin Vacherot, the reigning Shanghai Masters champion who knocked out Matteo Berrettini. It will be their first head-to-head meeting.
Fils, who has now reached the second week of the Miami Open for the second consecutive time, has so far reached three quarterfinals at the Masters 1000 level. He has so far reached five finals and won three titles (2023 Lyon Open, 2024 Hamburg Open, and 2024 Japan Open).
This year, he made the final of the Qatar Open but lost easily to seven-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz. In this year’s Indian Wells, three-time Grand Slam finalist Alexander Zverev knocked him out in the quarterfinals.
Tsitsipas, on the other hand, has yet to win multiple titles in a season since 2022 (Monte-Carlo Masters and Mallorca Open). Next is the clay swing, and Tsitsipas will be hoping to make a deep run at the Monte Carlo Masters, where he has so far lifted the titles three times and reached the quarter-finals last year (also his best performance in a Masters 1000 tournament last season).
