In October 2016, Stefanos Tsitsipas, a teen back then, nearly drowned while swimming in Crete. He was with a friend and both struggled to get out of the sea. It was Tsitsipas’ father, Apostolos Tsitsipas, who saved them somehow.
That was a life-changing experience for Tsitsipas as he often talked about the same in interviews. Tsitsipas was made to recall that incident in an interview with Tennis Channel and although he said he had kind of forgotten about it, he remembered what it taught him about life.
But at the same time, it was life-changing when it happened, and it gave me a different perspective on life, of my career, of my everyday purpose, let's say. It was very eye-opening…a very eye-opening experience that made me stronger, for sure. I felt like it had a bigger impact on me than any loss or any negative emotion that I felt in the past.Stefanos Tsitsipas told Tennis Channel

Tsitsipas, after his early exit from the Canadian Open, parted ways with Apostolos, who was working as his coach. The 26-year-old shouted at his father during his first-round match and later continued to express his disappointment at the press conference. A day later, in a lengthy social media post, Tsitsipas said he regretted talking to his father the way he did and that’s why he decided not to continue to work with him.
Stefanos Tsitsipas set to play match against Jack Draper
Stefanos Tsitsipas recently played in the Paris Olympics and Canadian Open and had disappointing campaigns in both tournaments. He is currently playing at the Cincinnati Masters and has advanced to the Round of 32 following his three-set win in his opening match against Jan-Lennard Struff. After getting past the German, Tsitsipas will be locking horns with UK’s Jack Draper. The match is scheduled to start on Thursday (August 15th).
The ninth seed has locked horns with Draper just once and lost that match. They met in the 2022 ATP Masters 1000 Canada in the Round of 32, which Draper won in straight sets. Draper, who is unseeded in the tournament, knocked out Spain’s Jaume Munar in three sets.
Tsitsipas also played doubles with Denmark’s Holger Rune. The pair lost in their first match against the American pair of Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelsen. Tsitsipas, who is World No.11 currently, has won just one title this season. Back in April, he won the Monte-Carlo Masters by beating Casper Ruud in the final.
