Stefanos Tsitsipas is set to play Carlos Alcaraz in the Roland Garros quarterfinals and ahead of it, the Greek has issued a stern warning to the youngster from Spain. Tsitsipas went past unseeded Italian Matteo Arnaldi 3-6, 7-6(7-4), 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth round to set up the clash against Alcaraz.

The 20-year-old from Spain, who went past Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime easily in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-1, said he likes to lock horns with Tsitsipas. The two-time Grand Slam finalist is hoping not to succumb this time and give tough a competition to Alcaraz.

I hope he will like a little less this time. I hope I can make him feel like he's not that comfortable with me. This is the goal I set for this match. I hope there will be opportunities on my side that I can use. And I can create an extraordinary atmosphere like today. These are the moments I look forward to as a tennis player.

Tsitsipas’ best result at Roland Garros came in 2021 when he reached the final and lost to World No.1 Novak Djokovic, who was on the brink of defeat against Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in this year’s Roland Garros quarterfinal but recovered during the last two sets to win with a 7-5, 6-7(6-8), 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 scoreline. Alcaraz, on the other hand, has made it to the semifinals, which he reached last year, but lost to Djokovic.

I think I have the key against him. I’ll try to put the shots that get him in trouble. I’ll try to do my best. Hopefully, the crowd will enjoy it as much as I’m going to enjoy it. Let’s see how it’s going to be.

Tsitsipas will hope to change his head-to-head stat against the two-time Grand Slam champion as he lost all the five matches he played against him. They last met in the 2023 Roland Garros quarterfinals with Alcaraz winning in straight sets.

Apart from Roland Garros, the other Grand Slam tournament where they met was the 2021 US Open Round of 32, where Alcaraz had to overcome the World No.9 in five sets.
