Stefanos Tsitsipas has more or less slammed his father and coach Apostolos Tsitsipas for his bad coaching techniques during his match at the Canadian Open. It was a shocking exit from the Greek who lost in his very first match of the tournament on Thursday.
As the eighth seed of the tournament, Tsitsipas was expected to have a deep run in the tournament, possibly challenging others for the title. He was up against Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the second round after receiving a bye in the first. All the predictions were in favor of the Greek, who ended up on the losing end.
Tsitsipas struggled with his forehand during a 79-minute straight-set loss to the Japanese player, 6-4, 6-4. Throughout the match, he showed visible frustration, even engaging in a conversation with his father in the coaching box, which only seemed to increase his frustration.
It was a massive upset for the Greek player, who was visibly furious even after the loss. In the press interview, he expressed disappointment in his father, calling him out for not listening to his views during the match. He mentioned this wasn’t the first time his father had ignored his input.
I need and I deserve a coach that listens to me and hears my feedback as a player. My father hasn't been very smart or very good at handling those situations. It's not the first time he has done that. I'm really disappointed at him.Stefanos Tsitsipas said

Despite his disappointment, Tsitsipas isn’t ready to make changes to his coaching staff just yet. Although frustrated with his father, he doesn’t think it’s the right time to replace him. Tsitsipas’s early exit in his first match marks a major upset at the tournament.
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ reason for his confrontation with father
Stefanos Tsitasipas struggled with a forehand during the second-round match at the Canadian Open. It was his first match there and made far too many errors to give the Japanese an easy route to the next round.
With very little success rate on his return points (Tsitsipas won only 1 game on return), he revealed that his forehand was a problem from the past week and his father and coach Apostolos Tsitsipas did not do much to help with that which further escalated to the mid-match argument between the two.
I've already been complaining to my coach about it (not being able to perform with his forehand) for the last 4/5 days. That was also the reason why I had a confrontation with him during the match. I'm not used to it.Stefanos Tsitsipas said via Canadian Open press meet.
After the exit in Montreal, the Greek will try his luck next at the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, which is set to begin on the 19th of August. Tsitsipas has not had much success on tour this year besides winning the Monte Carlo Masters and being runners-up in Barcelona. He would hope to change that as the tour nears the US Open.
