Proposing to Cardi B was one of the goals on Stefon Diggs’ agenda. He had planned to put a ring on the famous rapper’s finger once he won the Super Bowl. The equation changed on that fateful day.

According to a report by Rain Drop Media, Diggs and Cardi B broke up midway through the Super Bowl. Suspicion deepened when neither the Patriots’ wide receiver nor the WAP singer appeared at the after-party she had thrown, despite her spending 1.2 million on the event.

To be honest, it made little sense for Diggs to enjoy a party after losing the biggest game of his life. So, was losing Super Bowl LX the reason behind their split? Hardly a reason for such a drastic reaction, unless there was another reason.

Apparently, Cardi decided to call it quits with the 32-year-old after finding out that one of the mothers of his children was at the game, watching from one of the best seats in the stadium.

A rumor picked up by Page Six made headlines around the time when Diggs beefed with a reporter during Super Bowl week. According to an insider, Cardi had warned Diggs that she would walk away if she found him cheating on her. She had been fed up with him hooking up with random women at the peak of their romance.

Since making his relationship official last year, Diggs has welcomed three children. Only one is with Cardi, while the other two are with different women. Paternity tests confirmed that Diggs was indeed the father of the babies. At first, Cardi didn’t seem bothered, but her recent actions suggest she’s had enough.

Diggs signed a three-year, $63.5 million contract with the Patriots last offseason. The deal looked less appealing at that time because he was coming off an injury-hit season in Houston.

He proved the naysayers wrong and finished with 85 catches and 1013 yards. With those numbers, it won’t come as a surprise if the higher-ups decide to bring him back. Even Diggs isn’t sure if he’ll still be a Patriot in the next few weeks.

The Patriots have two options in their hands. In 2026, they could either keep Diggs and take a $28 million cap hit or waive him in March and face only a $6 million loss.

That said, other issues need to be sorted out before making any decision. Charges were brought against Diggs for allegedly strangling his personal chef last year. He is due to appear in court on February 13. Just before the Super Bowl, the civil lawsuit against Diggs for alleged defamation—not a criminal case—was dropped.

Anyways, Diggs played his role as the veteran voice in the Patriots locker room very well. He dealt with off-the-field issues, but most athletes in the NFL face that problem. It’s up to Mike Vrabel and the Patriots front office to decide whether to roll the dice for another year or bring in a younger, more affordable player to rotate with DeMario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte.
