After recording 445 catches, 5,372 yards, and 37 touchdowns in 66 games and four Pro Bowl seasons, Stefon Diggs is set for a return to Highmark Stadium for the first time since the 2023 AFC divisional round defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs. Diggs, now part of the 2-2 New England Patriots, will try to get the best of his former beloved Bills.
Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Diggs revealed that it will be an emotional moment for him to play against familiar faces in Buffalo.
It’s going to be a little bit emotional. I’m going to try to keep the main thing the main thing, but it’s my first time back there. It’s going to be a hell of an atmosphere. I played there a long time.

"That team has been good year in and year out."
“Things haven't changed, especially since I left. I know that team well, so it’s gonna be another test for us.”

Diggs arrived in Buffalo to serve as the number one receiver for the Bills’ young first-round quarterback, Josh Allen. In their first season together, Diggs put up 127 receptions and 1535 receiving yards, 8 touchdowns, and bagged his first All-Pro nod.
Diggs crossed 1000 yards every year he wore the Blue of the Bills. However, his numbers dwindled near the rear end of his tenure.
He went from 1429 yards in 2022 to 1183 yards in 2023 despite playing one extra game. His feud with Allen and other players in the locker room generated tension on and off the field.
Last year [2023], I was in the worst mental space I’ve been in since I’ve been in the league. If I’m not in a good space, obviously that’s not the best for me. So that’s when things had to start shaking out.
Stefon Diggs said in an interview with GQ (HT/Sports Illustrated)
The Bills traded the Maryland Terrapins graduate to the Houston Texans for picks at the start of 2024. However, his stint with the AFC South franchise lasted just 8 games. He was put on a season-ending injured reserve list following an ACL tear.
Diggs joined free agency after the season concluded and was picked up by the Patriots on a 3-year, $6.35 million deal. He repaid the faith by logging his first 100-yard game (against the Panthers) since 2023.
Stefon Diggs sees similarities between Josh Allen and Drake Maye
Diggs has established a solid connection with his new quarterback partner, Drake Maye. In four games, Maye has connected 19 times with the veteran wideout for 213 yards (11.3 yards per catch).

Diggs was asked if he sees any similarities between Maye and Allen.
I was with a young Josh; obviously, he wasn’t that young. I’m with a young Drake now. I see the similarities. I try not to get into player comparisons at all. They’re two different young men… But I see why they say that; they play with that similar mindset, that dog mindset.

Maye’s game has improved drastically compared to his rookie season, when he posted a 3-9 record. He’s currently 2-2, completing 91 passes from 123 attempts (74% completion), 988 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Maye also has 2 touchdowns on the ground.
Meanwhile, Allen is projected to win back-to-back NFL MVPs. The Bills are currently the AFC team with a spotless 4-0 record, with Allen contributing 964 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 1 interception, along with 31 carries for 159 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. Allen holds an 8-6 overall record against the Patriots and is unbeaten in his last two appearances.
