Since acquiring Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills, the Houston Texans’ passing attack has been top of its game. However, things took a wild turn on Sunday night, resulting in the star wide receiver sustaining a season-ending injury.
Diggs’ status was initially labeled unclear as the team was waiting for the medical reports to confirm his injury. In Tuesday’s press conference, head coach DeMeco Ryans gave the much-needed update on Diggs’ injury, delivering the disappointing news that he will not return this season.

The four-time Pro Bowler sustained a non-contact injury while running his route and collapsed on the ground after grabbing his right knee; that resulted in tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and will undergo surgery. After the medical staff rushed to him, he underwent a magnetic resonance imaging exam to determine the seriousness of his injury.
Since his trade to the Texans, Diggs quickly established himself as a true leader in the locker room. He also improved the Texans’ offense from a 13th rank last season to 9th in just eight weeks into the 2024 season.

As head coach Ryans said, losing Diggs is a blowout loss for the entire team, sitting top in the AFC South with a 6-2 record. He could only record five catches for 81 yards before leaving the field against the Indianapolis Colts. In just eight games this season, the star wideout was already leading the team with 47 catches and second-most 496 yards.
One fan exclaimed on X, “Fantasy managers in shambles right now. it’s me, I’m fantasy managers,” while another added, “AFC championship contenders to fighting for a playoff spot” predicting the Texans’ future without Diggs. Here are some of the fan reactions:

At age 30, this is tough to come back from. Depending on when he has surgery he will be 9-10 months post-op by week 1. Will have his work cut out for him
Hate seeing stuff like this. GWS Diggs!

The more disappointing part for the Texans’ offense is their star wide receiver Nico Collins, who is also benched due to a hamstring injury for at least a couple more weeks. They are heading for a Week 9 game against the New York Jets with a compromised offense and less reliable targets for star quarterback CJ Stroud.
