After a bittersweet season marred by a fourth-place finish and a newfound quarterback, the New England Patriots were back in action on Wednesday. The six-time champions kicked off their training camp in Foxborough with a special event, Pawtriots.
As the cheeky name suggests, the event was a wholesome start to the training camp. The pet adoption event, hosted in collaboration with the Animal Rescue League of Boston, Potter League for Animals, and the Berkshire Humane Society, invited fans from across the country to find a four-legged friend to take home. The initiative was wholly engulfed by the players as well, who arrived with their own pups in tow.
Amongst the many who brought their best friends was the newly signed wideout Stefon Diggs. The wideout also became the star of the day on both the football and the media side. He was already a major crowd puller, as there was a reported buzz amongst the fans in the past week since they learned that Diggs was not named on the injured list.
Diggs had a cheeky but chaotic moment, before the practices started, that thrust him into the front-page headlines.
Diggs’ pup had decided to be extra sneaky and bolted the moment Diggs set him down. The impromptu plan by the little escape artist left the wideout scrambling behind. Needless to say, the fans totally ate up that cutesy moment.

The wideout also opened up on the day after the sessions. He admitted that it was quite exciting, but also acknowledged that he is not setting any expectations.
Just to be back out there playing football … I didn’t really think about any timeline too much. Everybody is different. It’s Day 1 and I’m just super excited. I’m not setting any expectations.

Stefon Diggs cleared to play after his torn ACL
In Week 8 of the last season, Stefon Diggs sustained a non-contact injury against the Indianapolis Colts. The injury was later clarified as an anterior cruciate ligament tear, officially ending his season. The ACL tear in 2024 had caused some uncertainty around his readiness for the start of camp.

In what has been really enthralling news for the fans, Diggs was officially cleared to play by the medical professionals. Diggs’ presence meant a major boost for a Patriots offense that finished last in the NFL in passing last season.
His full clearance allows him to immediately take part in practice, offering both veteran leadership and a much-needed playmaking presence. Diggs was signed in March to a three-year, $69 million contract with $26 million guaranteed, New England’s biggest offseason addition, and is expected to be the focal point of the revamped offense.
With wide receiver Mack Hollins and tight end Austin Hooper currently on the PUP list and key pieces like cornerback Carlton Davis III and linebacker Jahlani Tavai also sidelined, Diggs’ return couldn’t come at a better time. The four-time Pro Bowler and 2020 receptions and receiving yards leader has played in Minnesota, Houston, and Buffalo before, although Buffalo might be a touchy subject. He’s expected to bring his years of experience and leadership as he joins the camp.
The Patriots are counting on him to help turn around a struggling passing game and mentor a young roster. His return to the field sets the tone for what the team hopes will be a rebound season under new head coach Mike Vrabel and returning offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
