Stefon Diggs‘ side-eyeing Josh Allen may go down as an iconic football moment. It took social media by storm when fans came across it.

From the outside, it may come off as Diggs holding a grudge against his former teammate and quarterback, but that isn’t entirely true. The 31-year-old addressed the significance of the photo after securing a 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills with his current team, the New England Patriots.

They had that picture, right, of me side-eying him, but they just kind of caught it at the wrong time. I just wanted to speak on that photo because I was staring at him in the moment because it was like, ‘Damn, that was my brother‘.

The origin of the photo can be traced back to Diggs’ first meeting with Allen last year. Diggs, then part of the Houston Texans, grabbed a 20-23 win in week five by contributing 6 catches for 82 yards. After the game, Allen congratulated Diggs, and the camera crew managed to capture the All-Pro wideout’s sneaky side-eye.

That’s my dawg. Obviously, things happened, and business happened, but I spent a lot of time here. I got a lot of love and respect for that young man. Tremendous player. He’s one of the boys.

The Bills traded Diggs to the Texans ahead of the 2024 NFL season. According to sources, Diggs and Allen had a fallout behind the scenes—a clash of ideologies.

Tension between the two athletes came to the forefront after Diggs was seen screaming at Allen following their loss in the 2022 AFC Championship game. His numbers took a nosedive the following season, after recording 1429 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022, he only managed 1183 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2023.

The Bills started the current campaign with four straight wins and were heavy favorites to make it five when they hosted divisional rivals, the Patriots, at Highmark Stadium. However, it was the visitors who secured a 23-20 victory.

Allen threw 22 completions for 253 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Diggs racked up 10 catches for 146 yards, while Patriots quarterback Drake Maye threw for 273 yards on 22 completions.

NBC Sports’ Melissa Stark asked Diggs if the win over the Bills was personal.

100%. Obviously, I love those guys, still got a good relationship with those guys, got a lot of respect for them, but I love the game of football more. Every time I go out here, I’m trying to prove it, not only to them but to myself.

Diggs replied

This was Diggs’ second 100-yard haul in a Pats uniform after going 6 for 101 yards in the week four win over the Carolina Panthers. Diggs improved his tally to 29 catches for 359 yards in five outings.

The Patriots travel to Louisiana to face off against the 1-4 New Orleans Saints. Mike Vrabel’s Patriots have opened as the 3.5-point favorite. Pats and the Saints have played each other 16 times in the past, with the AFC side winning on 10 occasions. However, the Saints have won the last two bouts, with the latest victory coming in October 2023.
