The Houston Texans did not have the season they hoped for last season. They exited the playoffs early, despite signing a plethora of superstars, such as Stefon Diggs, to help them go all the way. Now the team is fixing a few roster problems as they look towards contending for a Super Bowl.
To start off, they allowed Stefon Diggs to test free agency. They were not interested in the $22 million salary that he commands and will wait to see how his situation develops. The Texans have clarified that they would like to bring him back if the price is right.
The 31-year-old is still one of the better receivers on the market. But his torn ACL did not do him any favors, and the team needs players on the field. Therefore, it was likely that the Houston Texans would also look at potential options on the market.
Over the past few days, a plethora of good to great receivers were suddenly available. Big names such as Davante Adams, Keenan Allen and DK Metcalf were all tantalizing. However, the Texans already have Nico Collins and Tank Dell as their primary core. Considering that, they went with a different option.

Adam Schefter confirmed the news after Dianna Russini broke it a while earlier. This trade seemingly signals the end for Stefon Diggs at the Houston Texans. Christian Kirk is younger and is more adept at handling both the slot as well as deep routes. He will also be slightly cheaper at $16 million.
CJ Stroud and Texans move on from Stefon Diggs in Super Bowl hopes
The $16 million they will pay Christian Kirk will make it difficult for the Houston Texans to pay Stefon Diggs. Unless he agrees to a minimum contract, there is no chance he is returning to wearing his No. 1 jersey.

This means quarterback CJ Stroud will have a reliable pass catcher in all three areas of the field. Diggs is excellent on short and intermediate throws, but he wants to be the 1000-yard receiver he once was. Nico Collins is their current 1000-yard receiver, and they want Tank Dell to join him in that club.
Those two are the future of that team, therefore, they are looking towards long-term success. If Kirk works out, they could have a strong receiving core for at least the next two seasons. This essentially widens their Super Bowl window.
Last season, they reached the playoffs after posting a similar record to Stroud’s stellar rookie season. But they know they can achieve more considering they have a team that can go the distance. Now if health stays on their side, the Houston Texans can fulfill their goal.
