Caitlin Clark appeals for Stephen Curry to join WNBA All-Star weekend

The 2024 NBA All-Star game saw history in the making when WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu joined the All-Star weekend for a special 3-point contest with Stephen Curry. The matchup was supposed to be a showcase of the level of talent on displayed between two of the greatest shooters in the history of the sport. This year, Caitlin Clark hopes to do the same, but with the sides switched.

Clark, who lit up College Basketball and the WNBA in her rookie season with some outrageous long-range shooting, was widely rumored to join a repeat of the showdown between Sabrina Ionescu and Stephen Curry. There had been talks of Curry and former teammate Klay Thompson teaming up to take on a pairing on Caitlin Clark and Ionescu. However, Clark has different ideas at the moment.

According to Sports Business Journal, Clark has been disinclined to join a rematch of the ‘Steph versus Sabrina 3-point contest’ at the NBA’s All-Star weekend this year, especially as she is not accustomed to the concept of shooting balls from a rack next to her. However, there is a world where she would see herself face off with the NBA’s elites, although it would not involve the NBA’s All-Star Weekend just yet.

Caitlin Clark reportedly expressed her desire for the NBA’s biggest stars such as Stephen Curry to join the WNBA All-Star Weekend next summer. This would be a win-win situation for both parties. The NBA would get to eventually host their dream matchup of Ionescu and Clark against Curry and Thompson, while the WNBA would get much needed exposure from one the biggest basketball stars in the world in Curry.

While this crossover still seems unlikely, Curry has been an ardent supporter of the WNBA, and he may well be inclined to show up to the Gainsbridge Fieldhouse this summer at the home of Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever to showcase his talents in front of the WNBA.

Stephen Curry’s former teammate looking to join 3-point contest

Stephen Curry has been the unrivalled greatest shooter of all-time and the undisputed champion of the NBA’s 3-point contest twice – in 2015 and 2021. However, with his imminent participation in a potential shooting matchup with Sabrina Ionescu, Klay Thompson, and possibly Caitlin Clark, it is unlikely that he participates in the Starry 3-point challenge. Instead, we might see his former teammate and shooting twin, join the game.

Jordan Poole has stated that he would be interested in joining the NBA’s premier shooting challenge this year. Poole, who was often dubbed the third splash brother in the Golden State Warriors’ 2022 championship run, has been one of the most versatile volume 3-point shooters this season.

Although the lineup for the Starry 3-point contest has not been revealed by the NBA so far, Poole has expressed his desire to compete in the event. Other possible stars who may join the event could see reigning 3-point contest champion Damian Lillard return to win a record-tying third time.

At the moment, Larry Bird and Craig Hodges hold the record for the most 3-point contests won, with three a piece, while stars like Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard are stuck in a logjam for the second spot with two wins each.
