Schroder, who is in his 12th season in the NBA, has been a veteran of the trade deadline, having been traded five times throughout his career, including his trade from the Brooklyn Nets to the Warriors earlier this season. The German star made his thoughts on the shocking trade of Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis clear on Monday, equating the NBA’s business approach to trading players to a form of slavery.

“It’s like modern slavery. It’s modern slavery at the end of the day. Everybody can decide where you’re going, even if you have a contract. Yeah, of course, we make a lot of money and we can feed our families, but at the end of the day if they say, ‘You’re not coming to work tomorrow, you’re going over there,’ they can decide that. They got to change that a little bit.

Schroder said on Monday

As this tumultuous trade deadline continues to spring surprises, Schroder expressed his growing concerns about player safety. He even went on to acknowledge that a star like Luka Doncic getting traded signifies that almost no-one in the league is ‘untradeable’ – not even Stephen Curry.
