Aaron Rodgers, who has won multiple NFL MVP honors in his nearly two-decade football career, is counted among the elite quarterbacks in the league. His prominence compels many to consider as one of the greatest QBs of all time. But if you ask Stephen A. Smith, he will deny the statement with a solid argument.

Drafted in 2005, Rodgers is entering his 20th season in the league with the New York Jets, after coming off a major Achilles injury that kept him benched since week 1 of the 2023 season. The quarterback is closer to retirement than he is to winning a Super Bowl, as the Jets are not considered among the Super Bowl contenders’ list for the upcoming season.

While talking on the subject on the recent episode of ESPN’s First Take, Smith questioned the 10-time Pro Bowler’s legacy arguing even if he won a Super Bowl, it wouldn’t be worth the NFL GOAT conversation

I don't even think that puts him in the GOAT conversation. Tom Brady's got seven. Patrick Mahomes has three. Aaron Rodgers hasn't been to a Super Bowl since 2011--So even if he were to win another Super Bowl, that doesn't put them into conversation.
Stephen A. Smith said

Smith argued that for a player to be considered a GOAT, his number should speak for themselves. When it comes to Rodgers, he is counted in the category of ‘winning,’ so he cannot be a part of the GOAT conversation.

Aaron Rodgers targets comeback season with the Jets

Stephen A. might not be completely wrong here as Rodgers is the oldest player in the league this season, and he aims for a bounce-back with the Jets. In many ways, he is following in the footsteps of NFL legend Tom Brady, who retired at 45 and won his seventh Super Bowl ring at 43.

After recovering from his season-ending torn Achilles injury, Rodgers asserted that he plans to play three or four more seasons in the league.

The Jets have six prime-time games in the upcoming season, which does put a lot of pressure on the team as well as the quarterback. But their defense is one of the best in the league and their offense has many strong playmakers contributing to the team’s confidence in securing the playoff berth in 2024. Rodgers has a true chance of proving SAS wrong here.
