Following his career night for Alabama, their top scorer Brandon Miller was national news on Thursday. The NBA prospect was one of the names mentioned in the murder of Jamea Harris in January. Miller was named in the case for allegedly transporting the gun that was used in the shooting of the victim. ESPN’s sports analyst on “First Take” Stephen A. Smith blasted the college star for being involved in the killing of the young woman. While Smith applauded Miller’s performance, he was heavily critical of the decision to let him play in the game.

Smith said that he would appreciate the fact that Miller played an excellent game even after being named in the murder case which was a clear display of his mental toughness. “I will applaud Brandon Miller the basketball player, from the standpoint that to endure what he was enduring last night,” Smith said. “And to go out there as a freshman and to put on that show on the road, absolutely showed a level of mental toughness.” However, the NBA analyst also said that despite that it is hard to ignore the fact that there is nothing from the legal perspective.

He also slammed the young star on an individual level and said that if it was not for him transporting the gun, Harris would still be alive. “But as a young man, I want Brandon Miller to think about this – you didn’t pull the trigger, you didn’t shoot anybody,” Smith continued. “But it’s also important to say this – if you didn’t have that firearm to provide for Darius Miles and the person that he was with, a 23-year-old young lady probably would still be alive,” he added.

In breaking news, Miller’s attorney, Jim Standridge said his client “never saw the handgun” that was used in the murder. “On January 14th, Brandon played in a basketball game in the afternoon and later was asked by Darius Miles for a ride to the Strip area to go to a nightclub,” the statement read. The statement also added that Miller instead of the allegations that he brought the gun, Miller went to get food.

Brandon Miller’s attorney Standridge claimed that he never “interacted with anyone at Ms. Harris’ party” or Michael Lynn Davis, who has also been charged with capital murder.

He also disputed a claim that Miller’s vehicle blocked the path of the car that Harris was a passenger in at the time of the shooting. It is worth noting that Miller scored 41 points in a win against South Carolina.
