It appears Stephen A. Smith has quite some harsh words for the Pittsburgh Steelers after they once again came to an abysmal loss of 9-3 in the preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. Despite the significant changes in the roster, especially the quarterback room, the Steelers failed to put beyond 15 points on the roster.
In the latest episode of First Take, sports analyst Smith asserted his disappointment with the Steelers over their 0-2 preseason record. Although the preseason games aren’t given that much value, it’s challenging to place confidence in Pittsburgh’s offensive line after seeing their struggle in recent seasons.
Steelers’ starting Russell Wilson, who returned from a calf injury, was sacked three times in the five series he played and could barely post 8 of 10 passes for 47 yards. But the loss can’t be entirely pinned upon him. With less than three weeks remaining for the 2024 season, Smith believes the Steelers are heading for another disappointing season.
The Steelers looked awful offensively. They looked absolutely awful. I'm very, very disgusted by what I saw. I've never said this before because I believe in Mike Tomlin so much. But the Steelers have last place written all over them. I don't see how they get out of this.Stephen A. Smith said
Smith was mainly critical of quarterback Wilson, considering the divisional rival quarterbacks in the AFC North, including the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow, Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, and Cleveland Browns’ Deshaun Watson.
Stephen A. Smith critiques Russell Wilson’s performance and troubled departure from Broncos
While criticizing the veteran quarterback, the sports analyst also commented on Wilson’s ugly departure from the Denver Broncos earlier this year. He believes having a veteran doesn’t guarantee success. The signal-caller’s position needs to be threatening above everything else.
I'm thinking about the fact that you took those three sacks, you're still holding onto the ball a little too long. Why is that relevant? Because that's why Sean Payton couldn't stand him. That's why Sean Payton ran him out of Denver. That's why Denver didn't hesitate to push him out of the Mile High City, even though they owe him $37.8million.Stephen A. Smith said
Smith claimed seeing the nine-time Pro Bowler’s performance in the preseason made him realize why the Broncos’ head coach Sean Payton had such an intense feud with him. Although he highly believes in the team coached by Mike Tomlin, he predicted with Wilson in the center, they will occupy the last place in the coming season.
