Stephen A. Smith has responded to comments made by Anthony Edwards about the skill of basketball players in the era of Michael Jordan. The NBA star recently said that he doesn’t think anybody else from the 90s generation had skill other than MJ himself. This has since sparked intense debate leaving fans and analysts in splits.
However, Smith doesn’t appear to think that way and has knocked down Anthony Edwards over his statements. The popular TV personality is of the view that the older generation actually had a lot of skilled players and that the Wolves star is just ignorant.
Forgive the young buck for what he does not know... He's barely seen the older competition from back in the day, so he just doesn't know. Evidently, he talked about Michael Jordan, he didn't see Charles Barkley play, he didn't see Larry Bird play, he didn't see Isaiah Thomas, one of the most skilled point guards this game has ever seen... Behind one Earvin Magic Johnson himself... Certainly, the game has evolved... but that's entirely different than saying Michael Jordan was the only skilled player.Stephen A. Smith said
According to him, the comments by Edwards that Jordan is the only player with skill from his generation was a misguided one. In the opinion of Stephen A. Smith, that assertion was really out of bounds and disrespectful to legends of the game. He further pointed out some notable players from the 90s generation such as Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and many others to buttress his point.
While MJ is regarded as one of the greatest ever players of the game, there is no doubt that stars such as Earvin Johnson, Barkley and Bird are equally legends in their own rights. And for the folks who grew up watching these basketball greats play, the Timberwolves guard’s statement would definitely be debatable.
Special quality that crowns Anthony Edwards ‘best in the world’ revealed by former teammate
Since being selected as the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Anthony Edwards’ rise to stardom has been nothing short of phenomenal. As the Timberwolves guard continues to prove his talent, he has attracted plenty of praise.
Indeed, one person who has showered praises on the 23-year-old for his talent is former teammate Taurean Prince. He seems to be of the opinion that Edwards is the best basketball player in the world currently.
Ant's best talent is that he is coachable…He listens. It’s a different ball game when somebody that talented, listens…In the gym, always.Speaking on the Tidal League Podcast, Taurean Prince said
With the NBA All-Star once again showing his talent at the Paris Olympics for Team USA, it is evident his ex-teammate saw first-hand what he can do on a team. Edwards will be looking forward to continuing his fine form in the upcoming season, after winning gold on the world stage.
