On May 8, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets won his third MVP award in as many years, which is a remarkable feat that very few other NBA players have accomplished. However, Hall of Famer Stephen A. Smith was not a fan of Jokic being awarded the MVP this NBA season.
According to Smith, the Oklahoma City Thunder’s star player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, deserved to have won the Most Valuable Player award. Notably, Smith also claimed that although Shai had a great season, he acknowledges that he doesn’t want people to believe Jokic isn’t “worthy.”
I have vote. He(Jokic) did not get my vote. My vote went to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who I think should have been the worthy recipient of this award. I don't see how [Shai Gilgeous-Alexander] didn't get this award. He deserved it.On the First Take show, Smith said
However, it would be debatable to say that Jokic did not deserve the award instead. Both players have performed extremely well throughout this NBA season.
In addition, the Thunder Star, who is only 25 years old, has plenty of time to take home the trophy. This is because his prime is still young, even though many believe he should have taken home the prized title this season.
Shaquille O’Neal is on the same page with Stephen A Smith regarding the MVP award winner
Nikola Jokic won the MVP award for the third time in his NBA career, joining the ranks of many NBA greats such as Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Moses Malone. However, just like Stephen A. Smith, his panel partner and former NBA player, Shaquille O’Neal does not feel Jokic deserves the MVP award.
Interestingly, Shaquille O’Neal declared Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to be the MVP who truly deserved to be rewarded. O’Neal, who is not known for hiding his true emotions, delivered his judgment directly to Jokic’s face, which was quite an atrocious move by O’Neal.
Joker as the President of the Big Man alliance. You are the vice-president of the Big Man alliance. You know I love you. You’re the best player in the league. I want to congratulate you. But I want you to hear it from me first. I thought that SGA should have been the MVP. That’s no disrespect to you. But congratulations.O’Neal said on the NBA on TNT show
However, Jokic took it hilariously and ignored the noise, as he usually does. This could be mainly due to everyone having different opinions regarding who deserves to win the MVP award this NBA season.
In addition, he acknowledged that certain athletes deserved it more than others and that the distinction between them rested in the little things.
