As soon as the firing of Robert Saleh hit everyone’s notifications and television screens, the entire footballing community had one question in mind. Did Aaron Rodgers have a hand in this? The New York Jets quarterback did go on the Pat McAfee Show to deny his involvement. But even then, many, including Stephen A. Smith, have doubts.
Stephen A. Smith was live on First Take along with his panel. Amidst the discussions about Rodgers’ comments, Smith put the QB on the spot.
The long-time analyst was livid, as he felt the quarterback was not being truthful. Instead, he felt Rodgers and owner Woody Johnson gave vague answers about their conversation the previous night.
"It's not like we're completely oblivious and not cognizant of what the hell is going on. And when Aaron Rodgers tried to give that impression, that's when I think the believability factor went out the window." – Stephen A. Smith pic.twitter.com/uz090unhG6

Prime among them was when Johnson revealed that he spoke with his team leader about what milk and cookies he had. The analyst found it absurd that the owner and his quarterback conversed about such a trivial topic when he wanted to fire his head coach the very next morning.
Secondly, Smith took issue with the way Aaron Rodgers deflected blame. He felt that a player who uprooted himself from a team with whom he spent the majority of his career to not have the power or knowledge of what is going on with his new team is not possible. Therefore, he implied that the four-time league MVP is lying about his involvement.
Mike Florio feels Aaron Rodgers had power to stop Robert Saleh from being fired
Along with Stephen A. Smith, respected Pro Football Talk analyst Mike Florio has kept tabs on everything Rodgers has said. Florio brought out a pertinent question about the role of the QB in his article.
Florio emphasized that Rodgers must have known about the firing. He might not have asked the Jets to fire Robert Saleh, but he did not stop it from happening either.
The Super Bowl champion walked out of the Green Bay Packers after revealing that the team never worked on his inputs. Be it free agents or trades, etc. According to Florio, that indicates he has that power with the Jets.
At the end of the day, it might have been New York Jets owner Woody Johnson’s decision to forcibly remove his former HC from his job. But for the star QB to completely wash his hands off did not make sense to these two analysts.
