The offseason moves the New York Knicks made gave their fans hope that the team would compete for an NBA championship. Some of the most passionate fans, such as ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, were hoping this was the year the team brought back a major title to the Big Apple.

This past calendar year, the New York Jets were touted to be Super Bowl favorites, as were the New York Yankees, who came close to winning the World Series. Smith believed even if any one of them won, it would not be as big as the Knicks winning the NBA title.

He claimed that New Yorkers would shut the city down, and the government would be forced to declare a holiday. Sadly, that did not materialize as the team lost the Eastern Conference Finals to the Indiana Pacers.

Now, as they head into the offseason, they are looking for a new head coach and hoping to bolster their squad. First Take co-host Molly Qerim decided to ask Smith if he would prefer being the President of the United States or coaching the Knicks.

My loyalty to New York, being the native New Yorker. The Knicks, I love the orange and blue. Me to have a chance to resurrect the Knicks to win a championship. But I have to work for Dolan wouldn’t I, that’s tough….. I would have to say the President of the United States of America.

Stephen A. Smith said

The ESPN analyst reiterated that he cannot work under the controlling nature of New York Knicks owner James Dolan. Instead, he would rather be in power and help the country battle through the issues it has been facing over the years.

Stephen A. Smith would save Ukraine from Vladimir Putin

Hearing that Stephen A. Smith would prefer to be the President of the United States, Molly Qerim joked that he would not be able to join First Take’s production meetings at 7 am. Wednesday’s guest, Chris ‘Mad Dog’ Russo, wondered how Smith would look trying to negotiate the Ukraine-Russia situation.

I wouldn’t try to negotiate. I would work with the European Nations, I would work with the United Nations. I don’t want to give Ukraine unlimited funds, but I know that Russia’s ultimate quest is to recapture Europe, and I don’t want that to happen. Therefore, I would help out Ukraine.

Stephen A. Smith said

The 57-year-old believes it is in the best interest of the world that Vladimir Putin is stopped. Which is why he would work with the various world leaders to ensure Ukraine or any part of Europe is safe. Most importantly, he claimed that he would not negotiate with Russia and instead work to ensure that world peace is in place.

Stephen A. Smith’s presidential aspirations depend on his popularity

Over the past few months, Stephen A. Smith has spoken about his interest in running to become President of the United States. Initially, he was a bit reluctant, but as time passed by, his popularity started to increase, and he openly admitted he would like to run.

Showing a desire to run and being able to stage a proper campaign are two different things. The latter requires extensive planning and support, both through power brokers as well as financial backers. The Queens native claims he already has power brokers on his side.

Therefore, if he wants to run, he will have to start speaking with the rich and famous to foot his campaign expenses. President Donald Trump has given the ESPN analyst his blessings, but Smith knows he will be running against Trump or his next endorsed candidate.

He has been trying to garner support by appearing on many right-wing leaning shows. However, that has also impacted his relationship with leftists, who believe Smith is towing the wrong line. His recent back-and-forth altercations with LeBron James have also impacted his popularity.
