As the 2024 NFL regular season nears its conclusion, the MVP race is also heating up, with two prominent contenders as the frontrunners: Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley. Baltimore Ravens Lamar Jackson has been part of the discussion, but Stephen A. Smith believes that no one stands a chance against the Buffalo Bills star quarterback.
With a solid victory over the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in Week 11, the Bills not only occupied the spot as favorites to win the Super Bowl but also quarterback Allen joined the leading contenders in the NFL MVP conversation. His odds enhanced more after the dominating 35-10 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13.
While discussing Allen’s achievements on the football field, sports analyst Smith proclaimed him the MVP this season, asserting that no other contender stands a chance.
“With Josh, the Buffalo Bills look like they have not missed a beat. They look absolutely tremendous,” highlighted Smith on ESPN’s First Take.
Despite the 49ers’ struggle, playing in the harsh weather conditions seen in Buffalo was no easy feat for the Bills, especially when it came to scoring 35 points. After witnessing Allen excel in such adverse circumstances, Smith couldn’t help but wonder just how extraordinary the quarterback could be under normal circumstances.
Josh Allen and Saquon Barkley battle for NFL MVP honors
Star quarterback Josh Allen is indeed the favorite to win the NFL MVP honor– his first ever. Although the odds for the Philadelphia Eagles star Barkley are also quite strong, Allen is the only contender with negative odds of -250.
There is still about one month left in the season, which means that the odds can shift, the NFL rushing leader is in a strong position with +325 odds. If he wins, he will become the first non-quarterback to receive this honor since 2013.
Allen and Barkley in the NFL MVP race are followed by the Ravens’ quarterback Jackson with +1100 odds, Super Bowl favorite Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff with +1100 odds, and the Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes with +2500 odds.
