Patrick Mahomes had the golden opportunity to dethrone the legendary seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady at the Super Bowl LIX with only four rings, and Stephen A. Smith firmly believed that it would happen if only the Kansas City Chiefs had won. But the analyst hasn’t lost hope in the elite quarterback as he laid down exactly what Mahomes needs to do to surpass Brady’s legacy.
While it’s undeniable that the GOAT debate between Mahomes and Brady is officially over, it doesn’t mean it could never restart in the future. In the latest edition of ESPN’s First Take, the award-winning analyst laid down the requisites that the three-time Super Bowl MVP needs to fulfill, if he desires a legacy like Brady or even bigger.
What Mahomes needs to do to get in the GOAT conversation again: You’ve got to win two more titles. You’ve got to get at least five. And the reason you’ve got to get at least five, you’ve got to overcome the two bad performances in the Super Bowl.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be as easy as Smith claimed on ESPN. Recovering from such a big setback, where he was sacked a career-high six times, would be more challenging for Mahomes to close the gap with him and the legacy of the winningest quarterback of all time.
The upside of this is only for the fans of Brady, who are tired of the “Brady vs Mahomes” GOAT comparison as it may take a couple of years for the Chiefs to reinstate their dominance.
Kurt Warner rallies behind Patrick Mahomes after Super Bowl loss
Since the Super Bowl LIX, Mahomes has become the subject of intense criticism despite the speculations of him potentially sustaining a concussion during the game. Amid the growing criticism, former NFL MVP Kurt Warner has come to the Chiefs quarterback’s defense, arguing that a game doesn’t define the feat Mahomes achieved in the past two seasons.

With all due respect to my sports media colleagues – I’m amazed at all the RIDICULOUS statements made based on the outcome of 1 game!!! Take a deep breath ppl, then revisit in a couple days with a clear head!!!

After being scoreless for the first nine drives of the game, Super Bowl LIX is widely labeled as Mahomes’ epic failure. In addition to being sacked six times, Mahomes’ completion percentage also dropped compared to the Super Bowl LVII victory over the Eagles– from 77.8% to 65.6%.
