Tiger Woods found himself in the middle of another controversy following his car crash last Friday. As he announced a hiatus from golf on Tuesday, sportscaster Stephen A. Smith launched a fresh attack on the 82-time PGA Tour winner.

On March 27, Woods was involved in a rollover car crash. While trying to avoid a collision with a cleaner truck, his luxury SUV would flip over on the road. This incident took place around 2 p.m. near his residence in Jupiter, Florida.

During the questioning, he would have a negative alcohol test. However, he did not take part in a urinalysis and was later arrested and booked under charges of DUI, property damage and refusal to submit.

On Tuesday, the 15-time major champion made his first comments since this incident. In a post on X, he revealed that he was stepping away from golf and seeking treatment.

In the days since his arrest and release on bail, there have been questions about why Woods does not hire a personal driver. According to reports from People, the golfer does not have a car service for privacy reasons.

Stephen A. Smith, who urged Woods to get a car service, made some comments regarding the golfer on Wednesday during First Take. The 58-year-old tore into the PGA Tour star and expressed that he was lucky that he did not get someone killed.

Bump your statements. We don’t care. What we care to hear from you is that we don’t have to worry about you being behind the wheel of a vehicle, inebriated again. That’s it. Go ahead and get better… Ain’t nobody wishing any harm upon you. But what you did potentially harmed somebody else. You are lucky you didn’t kill somebody, if not yourself.

Smith would later bring up Woods’ previous incidents and expressed that they were feeling no sympathy for him.

In 2017, the American international was found unconscious behind the wheel of his vehicle in Jupiter, Florida. The toxicology reports revealed the presence of 5 drugs in his system. He was later charged with reckless driving.

In 2021, he was involved in a major crash outside Los Angeles, California. That crash left him with severe lower-body injuries and required multiple surgeries. Since this, he has made very few starts on the PGA Tour.

Stephen A. Smith urged that Tiger Woods had been given leniency

Tiger Woods‘ recent crash caused a major stir among social media users. Stephen A. Smith was seemingly left upset with him. Before the golfer’s statement on Tuesday, Smith took aim at him and urged that he had been given leniency.

While appearing on News Nation, the sports analyst brought up Woods’ previous crashes and expressed that there should have been some harsher consequences.

You had this problem in 2017… You had this problem in 2021… You had this issue again last Friday. All three times, you’re inebriated and you’re behind the wheel of a car. What the hell are you doing getting behind the wheel of a car? Most of us would be in jail… he’s gotten away with a lot.

Speaking of Woods, he has pleaded not guilty in the DUI arrest case and demanded a fair trial with jury. Attorney Douglas Duncan, who represented him in 2017 and got his charges reduced to reckless driving, will be representing him again.

As per reports from TMZ, a Florida judge has approved Woods to fly out of the United States and seek treatment abroad. Once again, he cited privacy reasons for this.

Before this incident, the former World No.1 was working on trying to make a comeback at the 2026 Masters Tournament. Last week, he made his first TGL start in over a year during the finals against the Los Angeles Golf Club.

Only time will tell when he will eventually make his return to the greens. His last start on the PGA Tour came in July 2024 during the Open Championship, where he missed the cut.
