With this year’s Spotify Wrapped sparking discussions among users, many found themselves debating between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Sports analyst Stephen A. Smith was among those eagerly awaiting the pop star’s next big move. However, in the midst of the debate, Smith found himself unexpectedly caught in the crossfire between the two artists’ fanbases.
Stephen A. Smith is known for sharing his candid opinions with the public, as he did with his thoughts on Drake. But this time, his comments seemed to backfire, leading him to address the controversy in the latest episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show.
During the episode, Smith defended himself against claims of offending Drake, stemming from a remark suggesting that Kendrick Lamar had “one-upped” him. While explaining his stance, Smith acknowledged the sensitivity surrounding the rivalry and clarified that his intentions were never to disparage Drake.
Furthermore, Smith expressed his feelings over Drake taking the rap battle to the court. He urged the Canadian artist to take the anger out at the studio or in the streets. Elaborating on his justification, Smith turned to say that he believed in the capability of the artist to clap back. If not, Smith said, Drake should gracefully accept that Lamar got one up on him.
"Kendrick got you."

While Smith started by praising both artists for their credible musical talents, he ended up taking one. The sports analyst gave special props to Drake, majorly because of his longevity in the industry. He claimed that the ‘God’s Plan‘ singer often has people coming after him, which was not the case with Lamar.
Additionally, he credited the singer for always leaving the arena standing. Another reason for Smith to choose Drake was the ‘relatability factor’. While Drake has yet to come up with another take on Lamar, his position as one of the phenomenal artists in the industry remains undeniable.
