Ever since the 2024-25 NBA season began, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith has had controversial takes on the Los Angeles Lakers. However, on the court the Lakers have proved him wrong, performing exceptionally this season. Notably, Lakers and LeBron James admirer Shannon Sharpe had a hilarious response recently after the Lakers won against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday.

On a recent segment of the NBA on ESPN show, Sharpe was having a go at Smith. It’s important to note that Smith is a long-time Thunder fan. Sharpe told Smith that ‘he is in big trouble’ after the Lakers’ victory. It’s safe to say that Sharpe got the better of Smith, having a continuous rant at him, raving about the Lakers’ win.

I told yall what was going to happen…I told you its gonna be ‘Lakers in 5″…Boy, y’all are in a heap of trouble.

Interestingly, the Lakers were exceptional on Sunday. Their newest addition, Luka Doncic paved the way in attack against the Thunder. At the Paycom Center, he outperformed the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Lu Dort. Doncic dropped 30 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals on the Thunder, showcasing resilience on the court for his new side.

Furthermore, Lakers superstar LeBron James contributed 19 points, 3 rebounds, and 7 assists, while secondary scorer Austin Reaves scored 20 points. Gabe Vincent (12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists) along with Dorian Finney-Smith (14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists) were key contributors off the bench.

The Lakers are 48-30 and currently hold the third seed in the Western Conference. It will be interesting to watch how they finish their regular season with a few weeks remaining.

Shannon Sharpe‘s confidence was beaming during the Los Angeles Lakers’ match against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Rightly so, because on Sunday, they defeated the league-toppers Thunder 126-99 after putting on an outstanding offensive performance. During the game, Sharpe confidently posted on X about the Lakers’ matchup.

The Lakers scored 54.8% from the line, particularly 55.0% from long range, to improve to 48-30 and maintain their third-place Western Conference standing. The Lakers tallied 78 points in the opening half and did not look back. They made 22 three-pointers, with five coming from Doncic. This was a huge statement victory by JJ Redick‘s side going into the NBA Playoffs in a few weeks.

Lakers star LeBron James makes honest admission after recent Thunder win

For LeBron James, the win is a nice step ahead for a Lakers team that is still figuring out its identity as the playoffs approach. As the last week of the 2024-25 regular campaign begins, James stated that the Lakers’ performance continues to fluctuate as they acclimate to the substantial addition of Luka Doncic and the accompanying changes to the starting lineup.

They know who they are … We are still trying to figure it out … We understand that coming down the stretch we have to play some really good basketball, but we’re still working our habits.

LeBron James told ESPN

James’ insightful comments highlight the Lakers’ recognition that long-term achievement in the playoffs will depend on their ability to evolve and maintain consistency in their habits, even in the face of overwhelming triumph.

In addition, Doncic also made his intentions clear after the game, crediting his HC JJ Redick in the process. Per Doncic, Redick told the team to be ‘more physical’ and the players took notice. They held the Thunder to under 100 points on their home court, showcasing a commitment to defend all over the court.
