The debate for the Greatest of All Time was one that fans had not anticipated having for the foreseeable future after Tom Brady announced his retirement. However, after the seven-time Super Bowl champion retired, Patrick Mahomes has emerged as his heir, apparent by winning multiple Super Bowls. He is on the brink of creating history in under two weeks by leading the Chiefs to a three-peat.
This has led fans to put him in the GOAT debate and compare him to Tom Brady. However, Stephen A. Smith of ESPN believes Patrick Mahomes can never eclipse Tom Brady. He responded to Julian Edelman‘s comments, stating that Mahomes would be in a class by himself by the time he retires.
This is because the analyst believes the seven-time Super Bowl winner’s accomplishments are significantly harder to achieve than what Mahomes has achieved.
Tom Brady was a rare breed. This is because he was able to play 23 years in the NFL and not once did his game decline.

The analyst believes that Julian Edelman was attempting to convey to the fans to see beyond mere numbers.
Patrick Mahomes lost to Tom Brady when it mattered the most
He stated the circumstances under which Brady accomplished his feats while pointing out that he had a harder path to the win. However, the Mahomes-Brady debate ends when one observes their record in the playoffs. Brady bested Mahomes in both of the playoff games they faced off against.
When it counted the most, Patrick Mahomes was unable to beat Tom Brady. This is why Stephen A. Smith believes that the duo should not be compared. The GOAT debate has been opened yet again and as Patrick Mahomes gears up to win his fourth title, it is best to embrace the greatness while it lasts.
The only challenge that Mahomes faces ahead of him is if he can continue to make the postseason and win. He has a long career ahead of him, and if his quality of play begins to diminish, he will have lost the battle because Brady was able to win consistently.
Presently, Mahomes is in the best situation he could have been in. This is because the quarterback has a Hall of Fame head coach tight end and a defensive mastermind on his side. While the man himself brings impeccable football IQ and athleticism to the mix, it is hard to say with confidence that Mahomes will perform without any Hall of Famers to throw the ball to.
